Alastair Kinnaird, a Professional attached to Kirby Muxloe Golf Club, has retained the L&RGU Open Championship title following a play-off win against amateur Freddie Macarthur from Ullesthorpe on Sunday 26th August
Alastair shot rounds of 72 and 71 for a 143 total which was matched by Freddie's 69-74. After halving the first two play-off holes, Alastair won on the third extra hole to retain the title he won at Birstall Golf Club in 2017. Freddie had the consolation of receiving the prize for the lowest amateur in the L&RGU Open Championship and having the lowest round of the day with his two under par round of 69 in the morning. Only two other players returned scores under par during the day and both were in the morning - Jack Malone (Lutterworth) and Michael Reed (Glen Gorse) both shot 70 in their opening round. The only player to match par in the afternoon was Alastair.
Michael Reed was the second placed professional with a total of 147, whilst James Billingham (Cosby) shot rounds of 72 and 73 to take the second placed amateur prize.
The weather forecast for rain at Kirby Muxloe for the Open Championship almost all day came true and all of the competitors that completed 36 holes are to be congratulated.
