L&RGU Boys beat Northamptonshire

On August 22nd L&RGU U18’s County Boys Team played Northamptonshire at Priors Hall GC in an MGU League Match.

The team was ably lead by stand in Captain Will Watkins, Lutterworth GC. After the team found themselves 3 - 2 down from the morning foursomes Will played a Captains roll as he fought from 2 down with 2 holes to play to secure a well earned half point.

Other notable performances came from George Halfpenny, Kirby Muxloe GC and Harvey Fitzpatrick, Kibworth GC, who won their morning foursomes 6 & 5 then both went out in the afternoon singles to win their singles matches with George winning 8 & 6 and Harvey winning 1 up to secure maximum points for their team.

Other notable performances came from U14’s Captain Will Plant, Cosby GC who went out in the first match in the afternoon singles matches to secure a 5 & 4 win and Cameron Chalmers played one of Northants up and coming players who’s also a member of an England Regional Squad to secure his point 2 & 1.

The overall match result was L&RGU 8 1/2 v Northamptonshire 6 1/2

I’d like to thank Northants and Priors Hall GC for making us all feel so welcome, the golf course the lads played on and how the clubhouse staff fed and watered us. Also I’d like to congratulate our boys for how they conducted themselves on and off the golf course while representing our County, they did us all proud! This was the final fixture of the season and I’d like to thank all the boys, parents and County officials for their support throughout this season that’s culminated in us gaining a hard fought half with Staffordshire and two wins against very strong opposition being Lincolnshire & Northants in the last three fixtures.

This gives us a great platform to build on!
