First Team surge to win Anglian League title

The final round of Anglian League matches took place on Sunday 4th September with the Leicestershire & Rutland Golf Union taking on Lincolnshire.

The First Team were at home, at Market Harborough, and were virtually assured of the league title following 4 wins out of 4 in the season to date. The team were targeting a clean sweep of 5 wins for the year and succeeded by winning the morning foursomes 3-1 and sharing the afternoon singles 4-4 for an overall 7-5 win.

This gave the First Team the Anglian League title for the second time since 2014 and also ensured the double of Anglian League title and Eastern Counties Foursomes. Only once before, in 1995, have the L&RGU won both titles in the same season.

The Second Team travelled to Waltham Windmill GC near Grimsby and whilst they couldn't win the Second Team League, they could prevent Lincolnshire from doing so. A win for the Seconds looked possible following a 3-1 victory in the morning foursomes but the afternoon belonged to Lincolnshire - they claimed the singles 7.5-0.5 for an overall 8.5 - 3.5 win.
