L&RGU Seniors lose to Northamptonshire

Only a Leicestershire victory by a reasonable margin would keep alive their hope of winning the East Midlands Senior league for the first time.

Preparation had gone well with 6 team members playing the course ahead of the fixture whilst all team members had played the course a number of times, at lunch all looked good with a 3 point lead from the morning foursomes, thanks to tight matches going the way of the L&RGU team.

The afternoon betterball matches saw a reversal of fortunes with Northants taking two of the first three matches on the final green on their way to turning the match around and securing the East Midlands title for themselves. Particular credit to Alan Martinez and Mark Illsley for their 100% record on the day and to my playing partner Phil Adcock in helping to recover from 3 down in the morning foursomes and 1 down with 4 to play in the afternoon.
