L&RGU U16s lose close game against Worcestershire

The L&RGU U16s Team lead by Harvey Fitzpatrick (acting captain) played a strong Worcestershire side in our annual friendly match. Halesowen GC is a very compact hilly course with lots of natural contours and mature trees. It was in excellent condition and played very well on a hot sunny day.

The morning foursomes were close with Worcestershire going in at lunch 3-2 up. There were good wins for our 3rd and 4th pairings Will Plant and Ethan Bell won 1up, Fraser Jones and Sam Envis won 3/2.

After lunch we lost the top two singles matches before George Halfpenny put our first points on the board with a 1up win, this was followed by a tremendous 7/6 win by Satria Cumming. There were convincing wins for Ethan Bell 4/3 and Sam Envis 4/2 (Sam got maximum points on the day). There was a great come back by Thomas Dziuba who was 4 down but managed to claw it back to 1 down going up the last, his opponent was on the green for two when Thomas hit a career shot from 150 yds from behind a large tree, it finished 10 inches from the hole, his opponent two putted leaving Thomas the simplest of puts to half his match. It was great to see all the players from both teams following the last match up the 18th hole.

Worcestershire won 8 ½ - 6 ½
