Superb double victory for the L&RGU in opening Anglian League fixture v Northamptonshire

The L&RGU started their 2018 Anglian League campaign with First and Second Team victories against Northamptonshire on Sunday 13th May.

The First Team were at Wellingborough and won the morning foursomes 3.5-0.5. In the afternoon Northamptonshire took the opening four singles matches but three victories in a row (from Joe Hack, Steve Sansome and Martin Anderson) was enough to give L&RGU the tie 6.5-5.5. Joe Hack won 7&5 in the morning and 7&6 in the afternoon to claim maximum points whilst Steve Sansome and Martin Anderson were unbeaten on the day.

The Second Team were at home, at Cosby, and also had a good victory in the morning foursomes but 3 points to 1. Again Northamptonshire fought back by taking 2.5 points out of the first 3 in the singles, but victories for Jack Malone (on debut), George Raitt and John Fairbrother as well as halves for Jack Merry and Chris Abbott split the singles 4-4 and gave L&RGU the match 7-5. Jack Malone and John Fairbrother won maximum points whilst Chris Abbott was unbeaten.
