Latest thoughts from the L&RGU President, Kevin Whitfield-Green

Tuesday 27th June
Welcome to the very first L&RGU Presidents Blog, this is also my first experience of Blogging so here goes. During my term as President, I hope to publish a regular Blog that hopefully will be informative, give an insight into the day to day running of the County Union and be entertaining.

On Wednesday 21st June Glen Gorse hosted the L&RGU Seniors Handicap Championship, it's a singles stableford off yellow tees, 60 seniors took part. Richard Lawton (Kibworth) retained the trophy he won last year. He was also part of the winning team of John Sullivan and Steve Lewis (Kibworth) who retained the team prize. It's a great tournament with prizes for five age groups and a two-course meal for £20. For those seniors who didn't play this year, hopefully, we will see you next year at Cosby.

Last weekend saw the county team finish 3rd in the England Golf Midland Qualifying at Robin Hood GC. This was a fantastic team performance finishing 1 under par with all 12 scores counting, this score would have won the event in most previous years. County Captain Martin Anderson and his vice captains preparation for this event was meticulous and the players could not have been better prepared. The team spirit was second to none, the consistency of our scoring was also impressive with the best score 68 and highest two over par  74. Congratulations to the winners Staffordshire with a score of 4 under par, they will now represent the MGU in the finals in September at Trevose, we all wish them good luck in the event.

We now turn our attention to this weekend and the Anglian League matches versus Norfolk. The 1st Team are at The Luffenham Heath and the 2nd Team are playing at Eaton. Both teams have won their opening matches so we are looking to build on our good start.
